After playing though Persona 3FES, 4 and 5, I can safely say that 3 is my favorite despite how poorly some of the mechanics have aged compared to 4 and especially 5. The main reason for that is the character development, the music, and the themes that the game presents very eloquently. These were my first SMT games but I am eager to see what each mainline and spin off game has to offer, and I’m glad that I decided to give this franchise a chance on a whim after Joker was annouced for Smash. I love Fuuka Yamagishi.

I just beat SMT Nocturne and I must say that if you are a modern persona fan I think you would like it very much. Hee ho. Maybe wait for the remaster if you can. ALSO SMTV PROTAGONIST IS very cute.
